قال الله تعالى

 {  إِنَّ اللَّــهَ لا يُغَيِّــرُ مَـا بِقَــوْمٍ حَتَّــى يُـغَيِّـــرُوا مَــا بِــأَنْــفُسِــــهِـمْ  }

سورة  الرعد  .  الآيـة   :   11

ahlaa

Why America Will Want Donald Trump Back in the White House

كتبه
The Biden administration is now almost halfway through its proverbial Hundred Days and appears likely to be able to jam through its coronavirus relief package of $1.9 trillion, of which under 10 percent bears any relationship to alleviating the impact of the virus. Tens of millions of Americans will enjoy receiving $1,400, and some of the more egregious ingredients of outright logrolling, such as House Speaker Nancy Pelosi’s subway system to Silicon Valley and Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer’s redundant bridge to Canada. In his formidable address to the Conservative Political Action Committee (CPAC) in Orlando on Feb. 28, former President…

Israel sets trap for new Arab allies

كتبه
TEHRAN – Israel has proposed to form a special security arrangement with some of the Persian Gulf’s Arab states, but the Israeli initiative was coldly received by Arabs, sparking speculation over whether Israel is trying to create troubles between Iran and its Arab neighbors. In what appeared to be a crass move, Israel’s Defense Minister Benny Gantz claimed that Israel intends to establish a “special security arrangement” with some of the Persian Gulf Arab states, who share common concerns about Iran. During a visit to an Israel-Gaza border crossing, Gantz played down reports in Israeli media that Israel was considering…

Women as mediators

كتبه
Germany supports projects worldwide that engage women in peace processes and strengthen their rights. Here are three examples.    In 2000, in Resolution 1325, the UN Security Council agreed that women should participate in peace processes as equal partners and be protected in armed conflicts. Since that time the Federal Foreign Office has been supporting projects that contribute to this. Afghanistan: protecting threatened activists Campaigning for peace and human rights is dangerous in Afghanistan. As a result, female peace activists are often threatened and need a safe place to go. One of these is the refuge where some 50 female peace activists and human-rights defenders…

The demographic case for investing in America’s children

كتبه
The Biden administration has made no secret about its intention to focus on investing in the nation’s youth. With its allies in Congress, the White House’s “American Rescue Plan” proposes to provide thousands of dollars of cash payments to families with children. This, alongside increased attention to education, caregiving, and other family support measures, signals the administration’s spotlight on the well-being of children. Although investment in the nation’s youth is a long-held staple of American politics, it was clearly not an emphasis of the Trump administration, which paid more attention to appeasing its largely older political base. Yet, politics alone is not the…

David Duke and Donald Trump and the long ties of history

كتبه
What happened in Charlottesville didn't start with Donald Trump. It didn't start with David Duke either, but there's a long, durable thread from Duke to Trump that's worth thinking about. Despite his dubious Twitter profile claim to be "one of 100 most read and quoted people in the world," Duke may be an obscure character to many people these days. But his dying fame has flickered back to life in the Trump era, and there he was on Saturday in Virginia, in the thick of the white nationalist protesters, talking to the media. "This represents a turning point for…

Biden’s Journey: Change Is Imperceptible

كتبه
The new White House Team has been in place for more than a month and it is perhaps time to consider where it is going with America’s fractured foreign policy. To be sure, when a new administration brings in a bunch of “old hands” who made their bones by attacking Syria and Libya while also assassinating American citizens by drone one might hope that those mistakes might have served as valuable “lessons learned.” Or maybe not, since no one in the Democratic Party ever mentions the Libya fiasco and President Joe Biden has already made it clear that Syria will…
Adocumentary about how media revealed the corruption plaguing Romania’s healthcare system and a Bosnian woman’s story about the Srebrenica genocide have been shortlisted for best international feature film at the 2021 Oscars. Two stories from the Balkans, told by a Romanian-born man and a Bosnian woman have been put on a shortlist of 15 films in the Best International Feature category for the upcoming Oscars, the US Academy Awards said in a statement on Tuesday evening. ‘Collective’, a documentary by German-Romanian director Alexander Nanau, was also put on the shortlist in the Best Feature Documentary category. It traces a journalistic exposé unravelling…
The global technology industry is hedging its bets. As the United States and China compete for technological supremacy in advanced semiconductor design and manufacturing, software, and other core technologies, global high-tech companies do not plan to pick sides. Rather, they pragmatically aim to compete in both Chinese and U.S. ecosystems regardless of the extra cost and complexity involved. This is the message from 158 senior business executives working for American, Chinese, European, Japanese, Taiwanese, and Korean global high-tech firms whom we polled about the impact of U.S-China tensions on their industry. While these executives regard as inevitable that American and…
Consumers were a bit less optimistic in February, data from the University of Michigan’s survey of consumer sentiment showed Friday. The index for consumer sentiment dipped to 76.8 from 79 in January. A midmonth reading, however, had sentiment at 76.2 and economists had forecast a reading of 76.4, so the actual results were better than expected. “Despite a small gain in late February, consumer sentiment was slightly lower for the entire month than in January,” said Richard Curtin, the survey’s chief economist. The dip in confidence came from households in the lower end of incomes, Curtin said. “All of February’s…

Some Members of Congress Criticize Biden’s Syria Bombing

كتبه
In the wake of President Biden’s bombing of eastern Syria, some members of Congress are speaking out and questioning the legality of the move, including Biden’s fellow Democrats. “We cannot stand up for Congressional authorization before military strikes only when there is a Republican president,” said Rep. Ro Khanna (D-CA). “The administration should have sought Congressional authorization here. We need to work to extricate from the Middle East, not escalate.” Senator Chris Murphy (D-CT) said the airstrikes were “unacceptable” and questioned the authorization. “Congress should hold this administration to the same standard it did prior administrations, and require clear legal justifications…
During the first 20 years of this century, America’s diplomats have been tasked to serve in more dangerous and highly threatened assignments than perhaps at any time since World War II. Both the executive branch and Congress saw the need to have a U.S. diplomatic presence in Iraq, Afghanistan, Yemen and Libya, even while wars were still being fought there and insecurity was rampant. Assignments to dozens of other high-threat posts continued throughout this period, as well. The U.S. diplomatic establishment stood up and answered the call—officers from the Department of State, USAID and other foreign affairs agencies volunteered to…
