قال الله تعالى

 {  إِنَّ اللَّــهَ لا يُغَيِّــرُ مَـا بِقَــوْمٍ حَتَّــى يُـغَيِّـــرُوا مَــا بِــأَنْــفُسِــــهِـمْ  }

سورة  الرعد  .  الآيـة   :   11

ahlaa

Policy

Apart from Europe and the South China Sea region, the Middle East and North Africa is one of the epicenters for what the U.S. has termed “great power competition” especially between the U.S. and China, although Russia also figures into the assessment. There is particular sensitivity to China’s perceived economic inroads into the region as it has surged to become its largest economic partner. Apart from China’s dependence on imports of Gulf oil to meet its energy needs, China’s Belt and Road Initiative (BRI) has expanded Beijing’s footprint from Oman in the east to Morocco in the west. Based on Arab…
President Vladimir Putin said he plans to strengthen Russia's nuclear forces, as his invasion of Ukraine reaches the one-year mark with concerns growing about the broader global fallout. In an address Thursday to mark Defender of the Fatherland Day, a patriotic holiday that celebrates the role of the country's armed forces, Putin said he would "focus on strengthening the nuclear triad," meaning nuclear weapons that can be fired from land, air and sea. Putin also said that, for the first time, Sarmat intercontinental ballistic missiles — which are able to carry multiple nuclear warheads — would be deployed this year. “We will continue…

Chinese thinkers debate their country’s future

كتبه
As the recent 20th Congress of the Chinese Communist Party (CCP) illustrated, President Xi Jinping aspires to equal, if not surpass, the status of Mao Zedong. To some commentators, he’s ‘the new Stalin’ (1). At a time of growing Sino-Western tensions, the West continues to view China through the lens of the cold war, with China in the role the Soviet Union once occupied: the main adversary and pre-eminent representative of autocratic forces in the world. This view casts Chinese thinkers as the equivalent of Russian dissidents and refuseniks who risked being sent to the gulag simply for owning forbidden books; it…
February 17, 2023|WASHINGTON For more than two decades, the World Bank has been helping Turkey with earthquake preparedness – providing funds and guidance to strengthen public buildings like schools and hospitals, improve emergency communications, and supply first-responder vehicles and equipment. Now Turkey and war-torn northern Syria are struggling with the aftermath of the deadliest temblor to hit this seismically sensitive region in the modern era. The initial Feb. 6 quake, with a magnitude of 7.8, as well as another major strike hours later and numerous aftershocks, has left more than 40,000 dead.   The Monitor recently spoke with Alanna Simpson, the…

The Press Reckoning on Russiagate

كتبه
Jeff Gerth’s investigation for The Columbia Journalism Review exposes the dark heart of the news media’s coverage of alleged Russian interference in the 2016 U.S. elections.  In the autumn of 1973, Jack Anderson, the wonderful iconoclast of the Washington press corps, published a syndicated column revealing that a Hearst Newspapers reporter had spied on Democratic presidential candidates in the service of Richard Nixon’s 1972 reelection campaign. At the time of Anderson’s column, Seymour Frieden was a Hearst correspondent in London.  Anderson also reported, not quite in passing, but nearly, that Frieden tacitly acknowledged working for the Central Intelligence Agency. Anderson’s column was…
For thousands of years, natural factors like rainfall and temperature helped determine the fate of economies and societies. For thousands of years, humans also engaged in human trafficking and kept one another as enslaved people. But as human prosperity increased exponentially beginning in the 19th century, it may have seemed that such concerns were relics of the past. So why is it that now—in the early 21st century currents of the Anthropocene era—that even wealthy nations are struggling with both extreme weather and human trafficking? One reason is the climate crisis, which affects security in a variety of ways, from undermining state capacity and legitimacy…

Volodymyr Zelensky Is Washington’s New Jonas Savimbi

كتبه
Most advocates of aiding Ukraine in its fight against Russia do not merely contend that the move is justified to repel an act of aggression that threatens to legitimize wars of conquest. Instead, they portray Ukraine as a freedom-loving democracy and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky as a heroic democratic champion, who deserves even more U.S. military and financial assistance than he has already received. The political and media love-fest accompanying Zelensky’s address to a joint session of Congress in late December 2022 was a prime example of such hero worship. David Frum, writing in the Atlantic, asserted that Zelensky "recalled us to ourselves" and our democratic…

Conflict in the Cyber Age

كتبه
Cyberattacks have occurred for decades, but the Stuxnet incident marked a pivotal moment in cybersecurity. Stuxnet, a cyber operation that targeted gas centrifuges used in Iran’s uranium enrichment program in Natanz, launched a global cyber arms race when it became public in 2010. While its impact was primarily contained to Iran’s nuclear facility, the high-profile attack demonstrated how nations can weaponize cyber tools to wreak havoc not only on computers and servers, but on critical infrastructure and government facilities to achieve foreign policy objectives. Since then, malicious actors have used and modified the Stuxnet code to attack a range of targets, including…

Escalation to World War III and the British establishment

كتبه
To be sure, we are not talking about the actions by British people or the legitimate institutions of their government. Rather, we are talking about a cabal that has operated British secret diplomacy and intelligence agencies in pursuit of the imperial agenda. Its objective is conquest and subjugation of nations for the benefit of the banking cartel based in the City of London and on Wall Street, and to the detriment of everyone else, at home and abroad. The driving force behind the war-making This cabal has been the prime mover behind many of the conflicts around the world, and…
The Treasury Department on Wednesday denied the House Oversight Committee’s request to disclose 150 suspicious reports flagged by U.S. banks concerning Biden family business transactions, causing the committee’s chairman to threaten a subpoena. U.S. banks have flagged over 150 suspicious financial transactions from Hunter and James Biden, Rep. James Comer (R-KY), House Oversight Committee chair, told Breitbart News. The wire transfers included “large” amounts of money tripped for further review by American banks. Wire transfers are widely used by money launderers. To mitigate the risks to the financial institutions, suspicious wire transfers over $10,000 are flagged for review. Wire transactions involving more than $10,000…

In Turkish-Russian relations, the Ukraine grain deal is not the point

كتبه
The Ukraine grain export deal, which Turkey helped mediate over the summer, was saved last week to much fanfare, apparently after Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan again intervened; but it is only a very small part of a much bigger problem. The central issue remains lifting Russia’s illegal blockade of Ukrainian ports, so Ukraine can freely trade with the world. That, not the grain deal per se, would do the most to resolve the global food crisis. The international community should not necessarily put energy into renewing the deal, because Russia has never truly engaged with it seriously and instead used…
