قال الله تعالى

 {  إِنَّ اللَّــهَ لا يُغَيِّــرُ مَـا بِقَــوْمٍ حَتَّــى يُـغَيِّـــرُوا مَــا بِــأَنْــفُسِــــهِـمْ  }

سورة  الرعد  .  الآيـة   :   11

ahlaa

Syria and its Arab foes

كتبه
The Syrian leadership was restrained and diplomatic when it announced that it would not be taking part in the annual Arab summit due to be held in Algiers in November. Foreign Minister Faisal al-Miqdad said this was being done to 'assist in the unification of Arab ranks in the face of the challenges imposed by current conditions on the regional and international levels.' What Miqdad avoided saying openly is that Syria wanted to spare the Algerian hosts any embarrassment, and to foil efforts to sabotage the summit by the Arab countries that conspired against it and pumped tens of billions…

Trump Says Ukraine Should Have Done Deal With Putin

كتبه
Donald Trump suggested that Ukraine should have done a deal with President Vladimir Putin to prevent Russia invading the country. During an appearance on the The Clay Travis & Buck Sexton Show podcast, the former president suggested that Ukraine could have "given up" the territory of Crimea, which was annexed by Russia in 2014, or agreed not to join NATO. The remarks came after Trump was asked for his opinion of the photoshoot Ukraine President Volodymyr Zelensky and his wife, Olena, did for Vogue magazine, which has come under scrutiny given it took place while the country was at war. "Probably not the greatest thing," Trump said, before adding his much repeated stance that…
The COVID-19 pandemic triggered a large and lasting shift to working from home among educated workers around the world, finds a new survey to be presented at the Brookings Papers on Economic Activity (BPEA) conference on September 9. “No other episode in modern history involves such a pronounced and widespread shift in working arrangements in such a compressed time frame,” according to Working from Home Around the World, a paper authored by Cevat Giray Aksoy of the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development, Jose Maria Barrero of the Instituto Tecnológico Autónomo de México, Nicholas Bloom of Stanford University, Steven J. Davis of…
David Barnea, the head of Israel’s Mossad spy agency, wrapped up a trip in Washington on Thursday that was focused on Iran as Israel has been pushing hard for the Biden administration to exit nuclear deal negotiations with Tehran. According to a statement from the Israeli prime minister’s office, Barnea stressed to officials in Washington that Israel “will not be able to stand idly by while Iran continues to deceive the world.” Barnea arrived in Washington on Monday and held meeting with CIA Director William Burns, National Security Advisor Jake Sullivan, Secretary of Defense Lloyd Austin, Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of…

2022 NATO Summit: China High on the Agenda

كتبه
The most significant deliverable from the NATO Summit is a newly adopted Strategic Concept, which has adapted NATO ambitions to the current security environment. NATO last published a Strategic Concept in 2010, and twelve years later, the security dynamic has significantly changed. For the first time, NATO members included China in the Strategic Concept as posing a “systemic challenge” to Euro-Atlantic security.1 The Strategic Concept outlines broad concerns over China’s military, economic, and political policies. Primarily, NATO members and allies are concerned with China’s “ambitious and coercive” policies that aim to increase its global power but lack transparency in strategy.   From…

Micron to invest $15 billion on memory chip plant in Boise

كتبه
Micron will invest $15 billion though the end of the decade on a new semiconductor plant in its hometown that the chipmaker said will create 17,000 American jobs. Sanjay Mehrotra, president and CEO of Boise, Idaho-based Micron, said his company’s investment was made possible by last month’s passage of the CHIPS and Science ACT of 2022, a $280 billion bill aimed at bolstering U.S. competitiveness against China and avoiding another chip shortage like the one that derailed the auto and tech industries during the pandemic. The CHIPS law sets aside $52 billion to bolster the semiconductor industry, which due to COVID-related supply…

The American People, Unlike US Congress Leaders, Are Not United for Israel

كتبه
A Pew Research Center poll conducted in March indicates that Americans have rather evenly divided views in regard to the government of Israel. While 48 percent of polled Americans stated they have a favorable view of the Israeli government, nearly as many — 44 percent — said they have a negative view.In contrast, among United States Congress top leadership members — both Republican and Democratic, the support for the government of Israel appears unanimous and over the top.“The United States takes great pride in our ironclad bond with Israel,” proclaimed US House of Representatives Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-CA) in a May 4 press…
When asked how children in their country will fare financially when they grow up, a median of 70% of adults across 19 countries say they will be worse off than their parents, according to a Pew Research Center survey conducted this spring. At least three-quarters of adults in Japan, France, Italy and Canada say children will be worse off financially than their parents, as do majorities in Spain, the United Kingdom, Australia, the United States, Belgium, Greece, the Netherlands and South Korea. Singapore is the lone country surveyed where a majority of adults (56%) believe the next generation will be better off…
The James Webb Space Telescope has made the first clear detection of carbon dioxide in the atmosphere of a distant world, and there is also an unexpected bump in the data NASA’s James Webb Space Telescope (JWST) has spotted carbon dioxide in the atmosphere of a planet 700 light years away called WASP-39b. This is the first time the compound has been found in any exoplanet, and the observations also revealed hints of a mystery within the distant world. WASP-39b is huge. It has a mass similar to Saturn’s, anda diameter 1.3 times that of Jupiter. It orbits relatively close to its…

Khan, the Bomb, and the Struggle for Democracy in Pakistan

كتبه
Speaking at a political rally in Peshawar on May 14, 2022, Pakistan’s former Prime Minister Imran Khan raised doubts about the safety of Pakistan’s nuclear weapons in the hands of what he called “thieves”— referring to the new regime that replaced him after a Vote of No Confidence (VoNC) in Parliament—and noted, “dropping an atomic bomb would be better than handing the helm to these people.” In a TV interview a few weeks later, on June 1st, Khan brought up nuclear weapons yet again – this time outlining the doomsday scenario that might unfold if the establishment didn’t take the “right…

What is Taiwan’s plan to protect itself against Chinese pressure?

كتبه
Flying into Taiwan amidst Beijing’s unprecedented military exercises in response to U.S. Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi’s August 2-3 visit was notable for its normalcy. There was no panic, no run on food and home supplies. The public calm contrasted with the last Taiwan Strait crisis in 1995-96, when Taiwan’s stock market and currency dropped and people queued to apply for American visas. Now, by comparison, restaurants are packed and sidewalks are filled with people living their everyday lives. I visited Taiwan with Brookings colleagues from August 8-13. Our group met with Taiwan’s top elected and appointed officials, opposition party leaders,…
